Bimbola Akintade

PhD, APRN, Dean, College of Nursing East Carolina University
Bimbola Akintade PhD, earned his bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees at the University of Maryland School of Nursing. In addition, he earned an MBA and MHA from the University of Maryland University College. He is an Associate Professor and Associate Dean for the Master’s Specialties at the University of Maryland School of Nursing. He is a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and currently practices as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit at the University of Maryland Medical Center and the Trauma/Surgical Intensive Care Unit at the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center. He is a commissioner serving with the Maryland Healthcare Commission and a pioneer Board Member, Research Committee Chair and Finance Committee Member of the Doctors of Nursing Practice of Color. He recently completed the inaugural Diversity Leadership Institute cohort through the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.

A well-rounded clinician with leadership experience in a variety of settings including universities and tertiary care hospitals. Strong management and business skills grounded in evidence-based practice, clinical outcomes, and a service-oriented philosophy. The impact of his work as a leader, an expert clinician and outstanding educator is evident in his various editorial board membership, peer reviewed publications, authored book chapters as well as invited and selected presentations. His professional contributions have been recognized through several professional awards and acknowledgements.
