Lisa Mestas is the chief nursing officer for USA Health. She has served in a number of roles throughout her career, including bedside nurse, clinical educator and nurse administrator. Mestas has held national certifications in critical care nursing and operating room nursing. She earned a degree in nursing, a bachelor's of applied science in allied health in nursing and a master's degree in nursing, in which she received the award for clinical excellence.

Mestas has served as principal investigator in the STAR-2 national research study through the Improvement Science Research Network (ISRN). She has been a contributing author in both nursing administration and clinical nurse leader textbooks. She received the Sigma Theta Tau Zeta Gamma chapter award for excellence in nursing mentorship in 2012 and the Alabama State Nursing Association’s outstanding nursing administrator award in 2015.

Mestas, in collaboration with the USA College of Nursing faculty, led the Frontline Innovations nursing research project to engage frontline staff in improving practice and patient care. This and other related nursing research projects have been recognized locally, nationally and internationally as outstanding examples of collaborative academic-practice partnerships. Mestas is passionate about patient care models that improve the health and lives of patients, and centering nurses as leaders in transforming the future of healthcare.
