Bridging the Gap: Academic Service-Learning and CBE

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing and the Future of Nursing 2030 emphasize the importance of disaster readiness competencies for nursing students. To address this need, the American Red Cross developed nine academic service-learning modules and mapped them to AACN competencies. Six of the modules focus on disaster readiness, response, and recovery. Included are evaluative tools to measure student perceptions of competence across nine AACN domains. By equipping nursing students and faculty with disaster readiness skills, this program aims to strengthen community resilience in the face of public health emergencies while addressing the transitions to competency-based education in nursing.
