Reimaging Nursing Education: AACN's Competency-Based Education Initiative for Practice-Ready Nurse Graduates

Through the American Nurses Foundation's Reimagining Nursing Initiative, AACN received a 3-year grant to pilot the implementation of the 2021 Essentials at 10 nursing schools across the U.S. Partnering with clinical practice organizations, these pilot schools: 1) mapped didactic and clinical curricula to Essentials Domain 3 and one other domain of their choice, 2) identified gaps in the curriculum and developed new, experiential learning opportunities, and 3) integrated competency-based assessments into their programs. In this session, representatives from three pilot schools and their practice partners will showcase their projects, sharing valuable lessons learned and effective strategies for implementing the Essentials.
